Now a female farmer leading a climate responsive agri-business, I was determined when I started my business, that I could not allow my family to go through some of the social and financial hardships I had endured when growing up. Raised by various relatives in a transient lifestyle, I was determined to break this cycle of struggle. I have no option but to succeed. However, managing a full-time, hands-on business as a wife, mother and business leader has been challenging – especially in the economic climate we are in.
The support and guidance provided by the GCIC business incubation program, particularly the Women Entrepreneurs Transformation Program (WETP), have been invaluable to me. I have gained knowledge on a multiplicity of business operations and management issues—a particularly poignant achievement for someone who only started formal education at the age of twelve. The incubation program has been so practical that I have been able to immediately implement recommendations and advice. The WETP has been phenomenal and given me practical tools to address the unique challenges that I as a female business owner face. I don’t think any other business incubation program offers the range of critical, holistic support services to businesses as the GCIC program does. I am so grateful for having participated in this program.
